In my last post, I discussed tips for new runners. But not everyone will want to run, some people would prefer to walk their way to a healthier version of themselves.

Walking is a great form of exercise for a couple of reasons. Firstly, you don’t need any equipment, although we’ll talk about one device you should use. Secondly, you can do it just about anywhere. These two reasons make it a great type of exercise to do when traveling – you don’t have to carry around a bunch of equipment.

If the weather is nice, walking outside is best for you. Getting your vitamin D from the sun, breathing in fresh air, and listening to the birds singing are all great reasons for walking outside. If the weather is bad, take your walk inside to either a gym or perhaps a shopping centre – just remember to get a good walk round before you start to weigh yourself down with heavy bags.Continue reading

I have to say, I think running is one of my favourite ways to keep healthy. Unfortunately, for me anyway, it is also one of those things I struggle to do. The older I get, the more I find excuses to not get out. But I will state it here – this is one of the things that I am going to work on this year – I am going to start to run, again.

You’ll see I said again. It’s not always been such an issue for me. When I was in my late teens I was a runner. Well, more of a jogger really. I wasn’t fast enough to classify myself as a runner, ha ha!

Looking back, I remember the races I did with my friend Steve. We would jump in the work’s van on a Sunday and shoot off early in the morning to various races across the South East of England. 5k, 10k, 10 miles, half marathons. We loved them all. Achieve Your Goals

You followed my advice and waited a few weeks before setting goals – no rushed New Year’s Resolutions that have already been dropped. It’s late January 2017. You are looking at the year ahead, and wondering what it has in store for you. You have reflected on last year – it wasn’t a great one. You are hoping that this year will be better, but hope isn’t going to improve things for you.

If this sounds like you, then there is one thing that you need to take on board – you are the only person who is responsible for changing your life. If you want things to improve, then no matter how much you wish, pray or simply hope, it is up to you plan and take action.

At this time of year there are many people in the same situation. Don’t get to the same time next year and wonder what happened to the past 12 months, again. Take ownership of your life, plan what you want to realistically achieve, and set goals accordingly.Continue reading

Happy New Year 2017

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had a great Christmas and enjoyed the New Year’s celebrations last night. It’s a special time for feeling the love with family and friends, and I hope you had time to do that over the past couple of weeks.

Of course, a new year usually brings a time to reflect on your life and make resolutions for the year ahead. Indeed, I expect you made some resolutions last night – you will often hear people say they want to lose weight, get fitter, achieve more. All good things, I agree, but for once, I am saying you should NOT set New Year’s Resolutions now.

Continuing our journey into coping with change, here’s a great video from Jim Hemerling, Managing Director of the San Francisco office of The Boston Consulting Group.

He explains how self transformation is positive, energising, and exciting. However, when organisational transformation is mentioned, you immediately think of redundancies.

As we have seen change is hard, especially when not of your making, but imposed on you. Often business leaders will leave it too late to make changes, and dive straight into emergency mode. And we all know how emergencies can be draining.
